Statistics seminars on general and special statistical issues have become a successful focus of ACOMED statistics. The trainings are conducted by Dr Thomas Keller. In our statistical training courses we avoid unintelligible technical terms and convey statistical facts "without formulas" if possible. Of course, this does not mean that no mathematical relationships are shown at all, but the statistics training courses use as little and as much as necessary formulas. Graphics, simulations, examples are often more suitable to convey the necessary specialist knowledge.

In addition to statistical issues, we can also address the software-specific implementation of the analyses, e.g. statistics with Excel and/or GraphPad Prism, evaluation of method validation experiments with Analyse-It®, analyses with R.

As a rule, listeners to the statistical workshops are given the opportunity to send their own data or examples in advance, which will be integrated into the statistics seminar as discussion examples.

The statistics workshops are now mostly offered as online events. These trainings are usually spread over several approx. 3-4 hour sections. Of course, in-house trainings are also possible, here additional costs for travel and accommodation of the speaker have to be planned for.

Information about the statistics seminars

Seminar participants

Seminar participants are primarily project managers (natural scientists, medical professionals) or product managers from companies in clinical research, the diagnostics and pharmaceutical industries. In terms of training, they are mostly natural scientists or doctors. Surprisingly, the statistical training of natural scientists (chemists, biologists, physicists) is rudimentary. Of course, natural scientists are able to acquire the specialist knowledge themselves, but often there is not enough time or suitable projects for this. It is then often knowledge that is restricted to special methods that is used in daily work and that ultimately clearly limits the range of ideas and procedures required to solve problems. Incidentally, the limited specialist knowledge often leads to the fact that too much data is collected for studies or test series.

Seminar content

are customized. They range from introductions to statistics and training in statistical software to teaching special methods, e.g. statistical methods for the analysis of diagnostic studies. Statistical content and software knowledge are often imparted together.

Exercise content and dates

If possible, the customer data is used in the statistical training. The new look at familiar data is a success factor for the seminars. The motivation of the audience is much higher, often there are lively and interesting discussions.

Where we provide the seminars

The implementation is usually carried out online or at the customer's site (in-house seminar). Inhouse seminares are typically conducted over 2 half days (afternoon and the following morning). Online trainings are also usually povided in several parts (2 x 4 hours, 3 x 4 hours, 3 x 3 hours, 4 x 3 hours etc.).
